The scenery is very Christmas-like. So why not ‘Kellemes Karácsonyi Ünnepeket’ instead of the generic ‘Holidays’?

One of my favourite paintings and very appropriate for the current snowy landscape. As I’m not a Christian I appreciate the lack of reference to Christmas – thanks!

Joe, she is obviously part of the war on Xmas. Or did you consider that not everybody visiting this site is Christian?
Happy Holidays to everyone and Kellemes Karácsonyi Ünnepeket to those who celebrate it.

And let’s wish the same for the Hungarian people…

Boldog Christmas minden body!

‘Kellemes Karácsonyi Ünnepeket’ or ‘Boldog Karácsonyt’ has an emotional content that ‘Happy Holidays’ simply lacks.

I am a sort of Christian though most Jossmen would disown me and some would cheerfully burn me alive (to save my soul from eternal damnation -they say).
I like Bruegal, this picture conjours up the cold.
Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men, but keep your ‘steel’ sharp.

Whether it is Happy Christmas,Brumalia or holidays, I hope everyone enjoys themselves.

“The Hunters in the Snow”. The painter, Pieter Bruegel the Elder (who lived during the religious wars in Europe which ended not before 1648), ordered his wife to burn some of his drawings so his family wouldn’t be prosecuted after his death. If true, this was clearly an act of self-censorship. Perhaps Eva laced her good wishes with a dash of warning of things to come? 🙂

Not quite the weather we are ‘enjoying’ in Debrecen!
A picture of a viziló and the lyrics from ‘Mud, mud, glorious mud’ would have been more appropriate.
Still, I hope everyone, even the operators of ‘Joe’ and his fellow trolls, had a good one, and let’s hope that 2011 is a much better year for my adopted country than this one’s been.
Got a feeling we’re in for a disappointment or three on that one though, but here’s hoping…
