Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all…and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2013, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that our country is necessarily greater than any other country or region), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual orientation of the wishee. This wish is limited to the customary and usual good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first. “Holiday” is not intended to, nor shall it be considered, limited to the usual Judeo-Christian celebrations or observances, or to such activities of any organized or… Read more »

London Calling!

Best wishes too, Eva.

Your blog – and research – are a beacon of light and hope for Hungary.

Many many thanks for making ‘history’ so readable.

I rights granted!

Found this “politically correct seasons greeting” also on the net in several variations – must be from 2005 or earlier, thanks again , Mutt!

You made my (holi)day!

The best of the times are still ahead.
Hungary will rise from the ashes, and we will be the heroes of the new era.
Thanks to people like to the hero Catholic priest, the 96 year old Father Placid from the Szent Imre templom.

I wonder what Lazar and Orban had for dinner. By the way this organization, the Hare Krishna’s church status was taken away by the Orban government. They distribute 1300 food portions daily just at this location.

Just to warn all of you…I’ve been trapped by one of the sly flytraps of Fidesz: Danko Radio.

This station puts out news (tainted) and ‘slager-operetta’ music. Hard to resist the music. And there are no commercials! Beats me how they profit…?

Where is the station? Well, if you let slip
your dial a smidgen beyond Klub Radio,
you’ll have it.

Politics be damned. (I expect I’ll be growing
a ‘Kover-mustachio’ soon, too.)

So now we know who listens to this type of music …

Totally OT:

I was really surprised to find that in my wife’s family nobody is interested in “Operetta”. She and her boys prefer Jazz, Blues and Rock (just like me) – well the younger one also listens to Rap on his ipad …

My wife still fondly remembers when she travelled to Budapest for a concert with Louis Armstrong – so of course we had to visit his house in Queens which has been turned into a small museum, really nice!

Take care, however, you’ll be just a ‘hair’ away then from Joseph Vissarionovich, you know..!

OT: The last time we could listen to ATV via the Internet was Monday. Since then it has been as dead as a nail. Is it still on the air in Hungary?

It did happen before (without explanation) that ATV was not available online. But in these times you easily get worried.
