Today’s extra: Who is a “financial speculator?”–János Lázár explains

Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, in an interview with Die Zeit, agreed with the interviewer that Viktor Orbán’s description of George Soros as an American financial speculator “clearly had anti-Semitic undertones.” Members of the Hungarian government were indignant. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó demanded Timmermans’ resignation.

Last week János Lázár was asked about Timmermans’ allegedly unfounded accusation. A friend of mine extracted two telling sentences from his answer to a question pertaining to the topic. Of technical necessity, I posted the two videos as links, so those who would like to hear Lázár in the original (over and over) will have to click on the two links below. For those who don’t know the language I’ve translated these two sentences.

(1) Historical experience. “It is historical experience that financial speculators usually ward off criticism of their financial activities by saying that it is anti-Semitism.”

(2) Speculators steal other people’s money. “Every financial speculator, if you look over the last 100 years, usually defends himself by [charging his critics with anti-Semitism]. He steals other people’s money, after which he calls those who demand their money back anti-Semites.”

So, did Orbán’s remarks have anti-Semitic undertones or not? What do you think?

Hungary is the land of financial speculators. 200 thousand people took out loans in Swiss Francs. Now they have no moral issues forcing the government (i.e. other taxpayers, who didn’t gamble with their family’s future) to pay for their losses when the Forint went under.

*Matt – you are right. With other words, the Fidesz regime is the real clique of the criminal speculators.

*warty and *rivatrol – these type of Hungarians are the foolish supporters of any Hungarian regimes, which promise the naive citizens the restoration of the old glory.

The obvious ending is just the opposite, in the shape of a typical Mohacs, a total and devastating loss.

Compared with our domestic troubles here, maybe the problems of a small country like Hungary don’t amount to a hill of beans, to paraphrase Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca,” perhaps the most Hungarian film to come out of Hollywood. But for those of us who don’t know much about Hungarian politics, could someone explain why this jerk Janos Lazar with a Jewish-sounding name who looks like a Lubavitch rabbi is spouting anti-Semitic cliches for all the world to hear? Is he stupid? Has he no self-respect? Are these cretins so deluded that they feel they must mimic the speech and habits of the nation’s bigots? Will they never learn?

Here you can listen to OV’s original words from his own mouth:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/ep-live/en/plenary/video?debate=1493213104697 (OV starts at 15:38 and 16:56)
About anti-Semitic undertones, well could be, but I think most of all and most important his speech contained clear ANTI-HUMAN sentiments!

Following Lazars logic, Frans Timmermans is a financial speculator, because he was the one who accused Orban of being Anti Semitic.

But why did Orban call Soros a financial speculator ?
Soros never charged Orban being an Anti Semite.

Very confusing, Mr. Lazar!

My question to Lazar and Orban:

If speculators, who stole other peoples money, call those people Anti Semites,
how do ordinary thiefs like you call the people, that you are robbing ?

Look at some of the Nazi-era propaganda and compare it to the Soros “puppet master” photo with Botka as the marionette. Tell me it doesn’t bear a resemblance.

Goebbel’s essay-rant.. from ‘The Jews are Guilty’..

‘It is the job of the government to deal with them. No one has the right to act on his own, but each has the duty to support the state’s measures against the Jews, to defend them with others, and to avoid being misled by any Jewish tricks.

The security of the state requires that of us all’.

Shades of the past again. So far we are only seeing a coded veneer with the attacks. Don’t think Ader thought specifically about this ‘question’ in his recent speech to Parliament but when his ‘The nation comes first’ in endeavors is brought on we can perhaps see better how things can venture into other unpalatable situations in this very ill democracy.

As I reported here on May 12, the Fidesz propaganda brochure “Lokal”, which is dropped in every mailbox for free, clearly orients people in the anti-Jewish direction in its May 11 issue.

[Soros] “regards himself as the god of the Old Testament.”

“Mr. Comey had been in the Oval Office that day with other senior national security officials for a terrorism threat briefing. When the meeting ended, Mr. Trump told those present — including Mr. Pence and Attorney General Jeff Sessions — to leave the room except for Mr. Comey.

Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.

Mr. Trump then turned the discussion to Mr. Flynn.”

“Mr. Comey shared the existence of the memo with senior F.B.I. officials and close associates. The New York Times has not viewed a copy of the memo, which is unclassified, but one of Mr. Comey’s associates read parts of the memo to a Times reporter.

“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.””

US Constitution:

Article I, Section 9:

“No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.”

Article II, Section 4:

“The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Not sure how my compatriots feel about an impeachment issue but I get the feeling POTUS is stringing out the rope to get himself ‘removed’ somewhere down the line if he doesn’t slow down. But as many know the bar is very very high.

Really sometimes I think he’d be better off just continuing selling marble bathrooms and toilets with concierge service for those living a mile high. There is a thing you know about being getting ‘promoted’ to one’s level of incompetence.

Great line by D Brooks, NY Times on POTUS:
‘ We’ve got this perverse situation in which the vast analytic powers of the entire world are being spent trying to understand a guy whose thoughts are often just six fireflies beeping randomly in a jar’. Go figure.

Sad comments from the government. I am of Hungarian origin on my mother’s side or more properly, Jewish -Hungarian origin. I am ashamed of this government’s comments about George Soros etc., not just because of the not so subtle anti Semitic message, but because these comments also bring cause harm to many good individuals in Hungary who are and /or are not Jewish.

Michael Kaplan: “but because these comments also bring cause harm to many good individuals in Hungary who are and /or are not Jewish.”

We have to speak a little more clearly than this.

Under Russian influence, the Hungarian regime slipped away from Western Europe. It is now a weaponized clique that plots all possible measures to disturb the peace in the EU, NATO. In this gulash fascism, all decency has been lost. The nation fell silent, the regime is a champion of an absolute anarchy.

My grandfather, a coal-miner and lifelong socialist in Britain, regularly used the term in political discourse, and I don’t recall him ever using it in an anti-Semitic context. In the UK, of course, Soros is best known for making his money out of the Black Friday crash of sterling, some decades ago. There’s no doubt, therefore, that Soros is a speculator, and he certainly holds US citizenship. It seems to me that Orbán is using the term to fuel his illiberal, anti-globalist populism.

Member

No doubt.
Re your grandfather: Keep in mind that a single term can mean many different things in different social contexts. In mid-20th Century working-class Britain, I imagine a “speculator” might have meant a middle-aged man decked out in a top hat, cane and pocket watch. In Central Europe, it brings something entirely different to mind.

Same thing with “usurer,” which is the term that Orban favored to describe foreign-owned banks a few years back. In the angolophone mind, it conjures up an image of Shylock. In Hungarian, there is no anti-Jewish connotation; if anything, it is used to deride Gypsy gangsters.

“Janos Lazar explains who is a financial speculator”!!

He should know. For starters he only has to look at his boss in the office. Orban is always speculating where his next million Euros can be stolen. In exactly the same sense Rogan is also a speculator, and so is Matolcsi bacsi (except he keeps the keys to all the millions). Tiborcz, a ficko, and Lorinc the Penztaros never cease to speculate where the next million Euros are coming from (and don’t forget “I’m just a private citizen” Habony and the guy whose casino machines were not hooked up to the NAV income system). And of course, Lazar speculates on behalf of his son – the one who owns the apartments – so he knows who is a financial speculator.

I just saw the Fidesz smear ad showing Mr. Soros as the puppeteer for Mr. Botka. When are we going to see Orban and Szijjarto as the puppets of Mr. Putin? It would be time.

She doesn’t like it because she wants everybody to agree with her point of view. She is suppressing every argument to fully satisfy her the anti-Jewish, anti-Christian and anti-everything that carries cultural and human value puppet masteron
