Recommended some while ago — that you acquire a generator.

But just as with Trump the presidential candidate, the war in Viet Nam . . . so now with Prof Balogh and acquiring a generator.

Cassandra had it easy compared with me.

Very good of you to keep is updated, despite the inconvenience to yourself there.

We worry when we don’t see your blog in the morning!

Seems that several comments of mine were lost, not only in this thread. Has anyone had a similar experience lately?
Is there a filter for certain words in wordpress?

Now my main point:
Like all the others here I wish our dear Eva a quick return to “normal life”. I have no idea how it feels a longer time without electricity – even in the villages here we never had a power loss of more than 6 or 8 hours.
Though we once had a closure of the gas lines. But that had been announced before, so everybody could try to react to it – many restaurants reduced their menu or closed completely for a day or two.

Some issues noticed as well. Usually I refrain from noting problems because WiFi and all that stuff isn’t seamless all the time here and I figure it’s all local.

A noticed issue: When clicking to edit posts at times the post makes copies of itself and then have to delete all the copies. That occurs at various times.

The power issues up there and in the surrounding areas wouldn’t happen so much if the electric companies took the time to prune trees consistently in those wooded areas where there are power lines. But if I recall the trees got way ahead of them. They were so far behind. Not so nice when power was remembered to be out for almost two weeks. Think Robinson Crusoe. It’s a different life altogether.

I am sorry for your meteorological disruption. I have lived through a few thunderstorms over the years. The only place where this coincided with grid collapse is Thailand. Another corrupt country a bit like the USA. Presumably the public funds voted for maintaining the grid were nicked.
Post independence I visited Jamaica where the brilliant British built roads were by then a series of potholes. Reason: the money voted for road maintenance was stolen,

Eva, Sorry to hear about your newest frustrations via Mother Nature. Hopefully, you did not lose any trees around the house this time.
Just know that your daily email is tremendously appreciated by me.

Hope your power is restored soon, must be really frustrating!

In the meantime, I found an interesting article on politico.eu that might be of relevance here:

This story may also explain Merkel’s policy towards Hungary?:

Dear Eva, wish you all the personal power you need now, when cut off from public power.
Regarding the advices by several commenters for a generator, if you do, please have it properly installed and cleverly run.

Note: several victims from Hurricane Laura succumbed to Carbon Monoxide poisoning [from their generators!]

OT – to compensate the tediousness

Almost 2 weeks ago Eva wrote a post about John O’Sullivan and “his” Danube Institute –
https://hungarianspectrum.org/2020/08/16/the-government-financed-danube-institute-and-its-director-john-osullivan/
Today I came across Anne Applebaum’s new book “Twilight of Democracy”, she had recently spoken with O’Sullivan and summarized it in her new book.
She does not present a pretty picture of OV and his international defense-man today, read it at https://books.google.nl/books?id=qkm5DwAAQBAJ&q=O%27Sullivan#v=snippet

PS: she also described her very unpleasant conversation with Frau Schmidt, OV’s court hysterian

Eva I am sorry for your electrical situation it will likely not get better. Here in the Chicago metro area after repeated electrical failures during peak usage periods Com Ed implemented the so called “smart grid” and passed all of the costs on to the consumers. It definitely improved service but increased cost significantly for low income consumers. The Com Ed operation was able to pass the bill to implement the smart grid with the help of corruption and will plead guilty and pay a fine which will also ultimately be passed on to the consumers. The corruption of the system here will likely lead to the indictment of many elected officials and lobbyists. The situation in Connecticut in terms of rates is every bit as bad as here in metro Chicago see  https://www.courant.com/opinion/op-ed/hc-op-rennie-pura-consumer-advocate-0823-20200820-g3fbktf3jjfp5jzaonismaxggm-story.html . The worse part is in Connecticut the rates are incredibly high without improvement to the power grid really of significance. We American Hungarians need to have some level of humility when it comes to critiquing Fidesz corruption and incompetence, because we have plenty of massive corruption and incompetence of our own. It does not make Orban’s corruption acceptable, but it does put the corruption/disfunctionality issue… Read more »

Like public infrastructure, both democracy and justice are susceptible to rot as long as money, hence power, talks. The digital media could become a counterweight if there were algorithms (or disinterested heads) that could weight digital information by its reliability, rather than leaving that, too, in the amoral grasp of money, the monied and their wannabes.

Again Eva on irresponsibility we here in the USA seem to be modeling it for the Orban regime. The government of South Dakota allowed the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally to take place with over 200,000 in attendance here is an article about the Covid transmission results so far: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/covid-19-cases-connected-sturgis-172353899.html
