Practically all Hungarian media outlets republished MTI’s news that, in the historical center of Rome, thousands demonstrated against precautions introduced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The article expressed surprise that, in spite of the 35,000 victims and the continued spread of the virus in Italy, there are still people who deny the very existence of the virus, adding that “the skeptics have not been convinced even by the hospitalization of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.”
I happened to read this news item in the far-right Pesti Srácok. I was curious about the reactions of its many commenters, even though I suspected that I would encounter a fairly solid bloc of pandemic deniers.
I wasn’t disappointed. Perhaps the most detailed and typical comment came from “Canadian Deplorable,” who explained that the medical community’s information on the virus is nothing more than “propaganda perpetrated by the globalist world government and by Soros.” COVID-19 is no more dangerous than a seasonal flu, and “taking hydroxychloroquine and zinc in most cases cures the patient.” Moreover, “the globalist governments all over the world use the COVID hysteria to build a new Stalinist-Maoist regime.” Canadian Deplorable expressed his disappointment that “most Hungarian right-wingers do not understand this fact” and actually help the globalist world government and Soros. He gave a link to a Hungarian site which, as opposed to the mainstream medical community, tells it like it is. It is called “Orvosok a tisztánlátásért” (Doctors for Discernment). If people want to know the truth, it is here that Hungarians who don’t know English can find reliable information.
Unfortunately, one doesn’t have to go to an extreme right-wing site or all the way to Canada to find examples not only of ignorance but of hatred of those who “fall for that propaganda,” even those who on Facebook announce that they and their families became infected. Tamás Szele found such a message by a doctor who was accused of lying and spreading false news, which a commenter pointed out are punishable offenses. These and similar comments were, however, relatively mild in comparison to others, such as “And?! You recovered, you miserable thing. What are you complaining about?” or “How much are you getting for such a post?” or “I have credible sources, but I will not help you with it. Just go on and vaccinate yourself. The world doesn’t need the brain dead.” That’s called sympathy in certain Hungarian circles.
I decided to follow Canadian Deplorable’s suggestion and visit the Hungarian site, “Doctors for Discernment,” maintained by a couple of doctors, a pharmacist, and a handful of hangers-on, which promised “to help interested professionals change the dictatorial approach of doctors and healthcare providers in favor of a more democratic, balanced, and scientific way of handling COVID-19.” The group’s leaders are Dr. József Tamasi, an internist; Dr. Alfréd Pócs, an orthopedic surgeon; and György Gődény, a pharmacist. My conclusion was that two of the three are shysters while the third is a lunatic.
Let’s start with Dr. József Tamasi, who has two offices, one in Budapest and the other in Kecskemét. I assume he has a large practice because he has almost 45,000 fans on Facebook. He promises “pain-free thermography,” which, as I found out, is normally used to detect breast cancer, though not reliably. In the United States, for instance, it does not have FDA approval to be used as a stand-alone diagnostic tool for detecting breast cancer. In fact, last year the FDA issued a warning, saying that “There is no valid scientific data to demonstrate that thermography devices, when used on their own or with another diagnostic test, are an effective screening tool for any medical condition including the early detection of breast cancer or other diseases and health conditions.” One of the procedures that typically follows a worrisome thermography scan, which shows patterns of heat and blood flow near or on the surface of the body, is cleansing. Tamasi seems to specialize in “getting rid of waste materials in the body.” If one has a burning desire to find out the exact nature of “waste material,” the good doctor provides an English-language description of it. Also available in English is the proper administration of soup cures, including recipes.
When it comes to Alfréd Pócs, let me repeat here my description of Dr. Pócs from 2008, when he was involved with the Fidesz-inspired opposition to the privatization of a heavily indebted and barely functioning hospital in Eger. At that time, I called him “a poster child of the lunatic fringe,” who in “civilian life considers himself to be a shaman.” In that capacity, he showed up near Makó, where at the time a Canadian company was exploring for natural gas. There, “in the name of the Holy Crown he took back the gas field” from the Canadians and claimed that “the Holy Crown is God himself.” Once, with the help of the Holy Crown, the gas field belongs to Hungary, Pócs argued, natural gas will be free for all Hungarians. Lately, Pócs has gotten involved with the anti-5G movement and, as a member of the Eger City Council, championed, without success, to ban 5G technology in the city.
The third man is György Gődény, who was trained to be a pharmacist, but, according to his Wikipedia entry, spent little time in his chosen profession. On the other hand, he established a “kamu” party called Közös Nevező (Common Denominator). “Kamu” is a slang word coming from “kamuflázs (camouflage), meaning “phony.” He gathered 42 individuals who were ready to pose as serious candidates in the 2018 national election and, in keeping with a law adopted by the Fidesz supermajority in parliament, received 153 million forints for their campaigns. The party received a grand total of 3,894 votes. The government has made no effort to get this money back. According to Márton Gulyás’s video, “Gangster Gődény analyzes,” he is also involved in some shady business which has received between two and four billion forints in EU funds over the years. One of this shyster’s analyses on YouTube, believe it or not, has had more than a million viewers.
And now comes a bit of information that is embarrassing for the Magyar Orvosi Kamara (Hungarian Medical Association/MOK): “Shaman” Alfréd Pócs is the head of the Heves County section of MOK. He proudly announced the other day that he represents 800 physicians in the county. Well, that’s exactly the problem. MOK decided that it must distance itself from Pócs and begin an ethical investigation into his activities in the “Doctors for Discernment” group. József Tamasi is also a member of MOK, but one cannot blame the leadership of MOK for this “oversight.” One of the first moves of the Orbán government after 2010 was to make membership in this professional association compulsory. I assume that the “shaman” will fight tooth and nail to hang on to his MOK leadership in Heves County, of which he seems quite proud.

Conspiracy mongers all over the world have a feast on the virus.
The classic conspiracy-enhancing criteria are all present:
Conflicting statements from official sources about the origin and conflicting official interpretations of the consequenses, the timeline and social/ethnic/geografic/economic impact of the spread, and finally how the commercialized internet (G5!) seems to be the only solution for overcoming general physical restrictions.
To top it off, we have the vaccine thing.
The most famous conspiracy-theory is the atomic-theory. Nobody has ever seen an atom and, by definition/by construction, he will never see one since the very theory itself posits that the atoms are much (10k times) smaller that the wavelength of the visible light (which is ~400-800 nanometers). Yet the theory has been fruitful. it has proved useful to explain, predict, and correlate a lot of things (observable things) together. And that despite the fact that nobody has ever seen “atoms” buzzing around in the air (as he has bees).
“Conspiracy-theory” is an epistemologically meaningless term, a synonym for “theories I don’t like”. Whether there is indeed a cabal of Jews pulling the strings from the shadows, or whether Soros, or Putin by that matter, is behind this and that and many other things, are all valid working hypotheses (not apriori wrong). They may be true or false, likely or unlikely, and you can only argue about how well such an hypothesis explains, predicts and organizes coherently the mass of observable (political/social) facts.
Ovidiot, you made me laugh (almost) 🙂 🙂
Of course the most famous conspiracy theory is evolution!
PS:
You’ve told us again about the EU’s gay agenda – but not a word about Greta!
Shouldn’t you also have a conspiracy theory on her, little loonie?
Please tell us your predictions …
You make me cry, Wolfi, when I read your posts/replies.
Because I see in them the ravages of old age. It is a drama, I gather that once upon a time you got a degree in mathematics while today…well… Eva would ban me if I were to speak my mind honestly.
(btw, have you finally figured out that paper ?…A 1st year, at most 2nd year physics student would be expected to handle it. It is modest, basic, stuff about capillarity)
Still nothing on Greta? Unbelievable!
The rest of your comments I’ll ignore.
Maybe you should read up on Planck and Einstein – though of course they’ve been dead a while
For our flat earthener the pandemic version today:
Ovidiu have you ever heard of Scanning tunnelling microscope? Have you ever seen an atom? https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=yqLlgIaz1L0 According to the remote diagnosis you have a mental problem, i.e. a mental illness. From Wiki „Psychologists attribute finding a conspiracy where there is none to a mental illness called illusory pattern perception.“ „A conspiracy theory is an explanation for an event or situation that invokes a conspiracy by sinister and powerful groups, often political in motivation,[2][3] when other explanations are more probable.[4] The term has a pejorative connotation, implying that the appeal to a conspiracy is based on prejudice or insufficient evidence.[5] Conspiracy theories resist falsification and are reinforced by circular reasoning: both evidence against the conspiracy and an absence of evidence for it are re-interpreted as evidence of its truth,[5][6] whereby the conspiracy becomes a matter of faith rather than something that can be proved or disproved.[7][8] Research suggests that conspiracist ideation—belief in conspiracy theories—can be psychologically harmful or pathological[9][10] and that it is correlated with psychological projection, paranoia and Machiavellianism.[11] Psychologists attribute finding a conspiracy where there is none to a mental illness called illusory pattern perception.[12][13] Conspiracy theories once limited to fringe audiences have become commonplace in mass media, emerging… Read more »
Aside from the madness of Ovidiu, Michael Detreköy you are completely correct about the global nature of pandemic denials. What is even more interesting is that historically the same thing has happened with past pandemics. For example with the Cholera Riots in Russia in the 1830s, between 1872 and 1873, Hungary suffered 190,000 deaths from cholera. In the 1831, Great Cholera outbreak in Hungary there was no serious attempt made at calculating a death toll but we do know one of the famous victims was writer Ferenc Kazinczy and one of its government commissioners was a young Lajos Kossuth, a rebellion broke out because of fear of livelihoods. Desperate peasants attacked landlords, doctors, priests and anyone in authority. Of course our national hero Kossuth was part of the social class suspected of attempting to kill off the peasants, imagine that!
In the 18th century, there were four or five major epidemics in Hungary, typhoid, plague, diphtheria, smallpox or dysentery, and then cholera. I think Eva could write a great essay on the history of Hungarian epidemic and pandemic denials throughout history.
A visit to the Semmelweis Museum of Medical History in Budapest will allow Hungarians to see their confused history relating to numerous pandemics. Much information can also be accessed on line at http://www.sziren.com/sziren_0111.htm . I have visited the Museum several times when I have been in Budapest for brief visits, generally I spend most of my time in Esztergom when in Hungary.
Thank you Istvan for reminding us that the former prisoner of Kufstein died of cholera when he did in 1831. So did Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort. He got it in Windsor Castle. Conspiracy theories apart the disease spreads through insanitary conditions. Most killer diseases do.
These days we have mystical viruses that require huge input from pharmaceutical giants to combat them successfully. Whether it is a virus or some other source the reason for its lethal spread is due to people, usually poor, living close in insanitary conditions, not by choice. The exotic theories surrounding Covid 19 will thrive. It will make huge money for pharmaceuticals and cost the rest of us a bomb.
in some countries like Brazil, India and the USA nothing very effective is done, not for the same reasons. It has and will continue to kill the poor, the socially deprived, the old and those with compromised health issues. Once it has ripped through these and took its toll we gradually return to the status quo ante. Nothing new. Only the economic cost and the hysteria. What are we going to worry about next September?
There have always been loonies and idiots everywhere, just many of these now proudly wave their deficiencies, eg. see videos of trump supporters. (Imo the ultra liberal “feelings trump truth” direction in the public edu has a lot to answer here).
…and these people are the same kind of lunatics as Trump and his faithful followers…
As a matter of fact, no more than 1.500 people took part in the Rome protest. That is all. It was not thousands. It was a huge fiasco.
Peace.
The virus is “propaganda perpetrated by the globalist world government and by Soros.” And Orbán does what Soros wants????
P.s.
I am a foreigner living in Budapest. I would like to express my deepest disappointment in the people of Hungary. The way many Hungarians are facing the pandemic shows a total lack of responsibility and respect to others. In public transport, malls, grocery shops, I see a lot of people either not wearing mask or wearing it incorrectly. Not to speak of the complete lack of distancing.
And bus drivers, store employees, mall securities, they all watch and let it go. It is totally unacceptable.
“I see a lot of people either not wearing mask or wearing it incorrectly. Not to speak of the complete lack of distancing.”
Ah, Mario, you see the Hungarians are God’s Chosen People; PM Orban has often told them so. This gives them immunity as long as foreigners are kept at the border.
The following is not a joke: Last week I asked someone “so in your village it is impossible to get sick?” His answer was “as long as no immigrants come we’re safe”. Indoctrination by the Orbán propaganda machine works!
It always works. Propaganda, ideology are key to politics’ success. The communists weakened by the 1980’s and duly lost. Orban will not commit that mistake.
The goals are the same (influence the minds of the masses) but the methods are better, smarter, more efficient, more sophisticated and let’s face it the content is “more natural” to the voters (nationalism and hatred vs. international Marxist world revolution and unity of the working classes or whatever).
So, no surprise here, sadly.
Only the liberals thought we will have the internet and Twitter and what have you and then people will be free because governments won’t be able to control their conversations any more etc. etc. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
The right-wing always knew instinctively that this was bullshit.
So what you see is completely normal.
“The goals are the same (influence the minds of the masses) but the methods are better, smarter, more efficient, more sophisticated and let’s face it the content is “more natural” to the voters”
Do you want to make me laugh? Better methods? Smarter? More sophisticated? More natural????
Orbán uses the most basic means of propaganda, far away of anything that could be called smart or even sophisticated. Natural only since he has produced the environment for this kind of “nature”. Without the propaganda against “migrants” the last nearly 6 years nobody would think that it is natural to close borders for keeping a virus out at all.
And more efficient? I am not sure, not that I say that communists were very successful in convincing the people of their message, but Orbán is either. Success he has with side effects as “only immigrants have the virus”, but not in convincing the majority of us of the main message: That his regime is even close to be good for us. Such an side effect can kick back very hard! If I don’t see any migrant I don’t need to protect myself or others. Very efficient said COVID 19….
The crazy side of this:
All this has been obvious to any sane person for several years now – my wife and her family eg don’t ever listen to/watch the official news of North Korean State Radio.
Of course they’re lucky to have internet access though it’s getting more difficult to find informative, not Fidesz controlled sites as we all here know.
Well, it’s not as bad as in Rakosi times – yet …
Istvan,
I remember hardly any communists (who would defend communism) in the 1980’s even when communism was in power and everybody thought it would last forever. There was no ideological life left in the official ideology by 1985.
Today, there would be literally millions who would be (are openly, happily) defending Orban’s stance against migrants, Jewish conspirators, Brusselite Moscovites and so on. Orban’s nationalistic ideology is alive and popular. His ideas influence even his opponents who use his framing, his terminology, his topics.
Big difference! A lot of people would defend the hate, but many of those would not defend Orbán. So it doesn’t work as supposed.
Another difference: The dictatorship is in 2020 not as settled as it was in 1985.
In historical circles there was no one I encountered by the mid-1970s who believed in the ideology.
We are strong people in Hungary.
Sorry this is just a reference to a meme that went viral when there were some Montenegran tourrists in Venice during Italy’s lockdown. People from a tourist group wore no masks on St, Mark’s and were asked to do so, then they replied “we are strong people in Montenegro”.
Indeed they are, until they too catch covid and someone ( State Health Care ) has to take care of them.
🙂
I have been ordering food delivery once a week for the past months but it is difficult to keep fruit and veg fresh for longer periods so I thought I would be brave and venture forth into the world again, and get fresh produce from my local outdoors fruit and veg stall. This was a big move on my part, as I do not go into shops or any public places, and I try to do my best to keep safe since most of us don’t know if we are asymptomatic carriers of Covid or not – “biztos ami biztos”, as the saying goes in Hungarian. So having plucked up courage, with my mask on I picked out the things I wanted, while politely dodging the shopkeeper (who had no mask on) as she went back and forth with boxes of produce. In an angry voice she asked why I was keeping my distance from her, and when I pointed out that since none of us knows who has Covid, I am following world guidelines about social distancing. At this she retorted, while slamming my basket down, “well, if I have it, then I would be dead since I have a… Read more »
“A nation divided into incredibly clever Nobel prize winners on the one hand, …”
Only 4 of the 13 Hungarian Nobel Prize winners would be considered as “real” Hungarians by the majority of Hungarians.
The other 9 (i.e. 70%) were of Jewish descent.
“Migránsok who don’t belong here and who only want to destroy our Nation” as those “real” Hungarians would say.
“they all watch and let it go”
That was my experience with many things in Hungary during my stay [living and working!] many years ago. Hardly anybody dares to criticize others for inappropriate behaviour, most look say nothing and behind the back at most shake their heads.
And when I, after feeling comfortable enough after some time in Hungary, started to say/note anything to others, the most I received back was warnings that this would not help anything at all and only get myself into trouble. Well I got into some small but not serious trouble a few times, but that did never hold me back from saying/noting things directly to other people.
How on earth can a society, with such a mentality, ever achieve serious developments into a better future?
Yes I see similar inappropriate wearing of masks here in Chicago too, with the mask below the nose. If you’re suspected of having COVID, swabs from your throat or nose will be taken and tested by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). This method checks if genetic material from the coronavirus is present in the sample. So its rather obvious your nose is a key entry point for entry of virus.
The truth is that there was a medium severe pandemic, that was not very dangerous, when treated properly such as in South Korea, but turned more serious when European countries discovered they were totally unprepared, such as Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and the UK. Lockdown turned not to be very efficient for the disease but terribly efficient to sabotage the economy (which SK did not do). The USA and Brazil are another kettle of fish, the former very much like European countries and the latter sadly more damaged due to the heavily dense poor sections of its megalopolis. In Europe at least, the story drummed by the media of a “second wave” is pure bullshit since there are very few people in hospitals and even less in ICUs, contrary to the February-April period. Let me remind all that RT-PCR tests, widely used, can test either very small quantities of virus, making the patient hardly contagious, or even dead strands of virus, obviously from an old infection, more often than not without any symptoms. No general media, to my knowledge has a serious, scientific approach to this new virus, rather similar to that of standard influenza, that also kills many people… Read more »
“In Europe at least, the story drummed by the media of a “second wave” is pure bullshit since there are very few people in hospitals and even less in ICUs, contrary to the February-April period.”
The second wave is BS? Because there are fewer people in European hospitals this time? There are less because of a better response. What South Korea did from the beginning, many European countries are doing now to contain the second wave. Would you say that there was no first wave in S. Korea because there weren’t that many people in its hospitals then?
OT: interesting review article re Michael Sandel’s new book
Zizek realized this earlier but still: “The implication [of meritocracy] is that those who do not rise will have no one to blame but themselves.”

The pandemic is real, but are lock downs the right approach given the economic and social costs? The real mortality rate = fatalities/total infected is well under 1%. My reference is a recent Lancet article. I am highly skeptical that the huge costs are justifiable.
I think if we could trust people to be “sensible”, full lockdowns would be unnecessary and actually unproductive. However, as the several examples above prove, too high a proportion of the population in Hungary and elsewhere have, as memorably described above, “the intelligence of a head of cabbage”
So in the same way we physically have to stop little children from putting their hands in the fire, it would probably be better to lockdown the “little children” of Hungary rather than trust them to do the sensible thing.
„I am highly skeptical that the huge costs are justifiable.“
In US there are 189000 people who can no longer express themselves. Whereby highly skeptical can also be infectious and even deadly. Interesting article only in german … https://www.aerzteblatt.de/nachrichten/114349/USA-Uebersterblichkeit-uebertrifft-die-Zahl-der-gemeldeten-Todesfaelle-an-COVID-19
„Based on death certificate data, the percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia, influenza, or COVID-19 (PIC) for week 35 is 6.6%. This is currently lower than the percentage during week 34 (10.7%); however, the percentage remains above the epidemic threshold and will likely increase as more death certificates are processed.“ https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html
Well one should not think that Covid 19 deaths in the USA are generalized. They are heavily weighted among the working poor, institutionalized people (inclusive of older people, prisoners, and the mentally ill) and lower income non-white communities in urban areas.
Lower income families do not have the luxury of working remotely because many are service sector workers or work in construction. The toll on Black public transit workers in Chicago has been horrendous for example as it was on immigrants in New York City who worked in nursing homes.
The weight of Covid 19 on minority communities has been an additional factor driving social unrest that was set off by the police murder captured on video of George Floyd in Minneapolis. We have one African American community here in Chicago that has been ravaged by both Covid 19 and gun related killings simultaneously. (https://www.wbez.org/stories/auburn-gresham-neighborhood-struggles-with-covid-19-and-rampant-gun-violence/9bc47d5b-a3dc-42db-90c5-75517e2f7386).
The situation in Europe is a little different, because most EU countries have good health care system. There is no survey of white and colored corona deaths as far as I know. Even the idea would cause controversy and make a big splash among anti-discrimination advocates. Only the comparison with Hungary would be interesting because one could assume that Roma have more pre-existing conditions due to the poverty and racism that is certainly present in the health care system.
Only with the opening of the economy the USA has problems because there are not enough tests or not enough testing is done ergo people are not willing to go out to die for the DOW. South Korea has done very well from the beginning and life went on almost normally. The first covid-19 cases were at the same time with the USA until today they have 336 deaths. They have the virus under control Europe has the virus under control the USA with Trump and the Republicans trust shamans rather than scientists.
Have you seen the sunken boats for Trump, Poseidon for Biden.
Now that Eva wrote about conspiracy-theorists and the pandemic, I would like to bring up some questions about the official data made public by OV’s pandemic team [in chronologic order]: –please explain why the number of Daily New Cases seriously decreased just before the first peak in early April? –please explain how it is possible that at the end of April and first days of May the number of Recoveries went seriously down, and much more down than the dip in Daily New Cases some weeks earlier? note1: the Recoveries curve almost always follows with a certain delay the Daily New Cases curve, as patients first get infected, then tested, then get through the disease and finally mostly recover after 2-4 weeks] note2: the, by OV predicted, May.03 peak happened at the very moment when after May.03 the number of Recoveries made a sudden change in trend from above mentioned decrease into steep increase –please explain the peak in Recoveries in the middle of July, while in the 1.5 months before the number of Daily New Cases was much and much lower than that very peak? [see again note1 above] –please explain how it is possible that, contrary to all… Read more »
Why only questions?
Because the official data is all there is, nothing else available to check and compare with!
Why am I putting these questions?
Because in the independent media I seriously miss critical analyses of the official Corona Virus data from OV’s pandemic team!
I hope that my questions will get some people really start looking into and publishing about it.
Why questions only? Because who seriously tries to answer your questions will be arrested. This is still part of the criminal code and we are in the newly created “health emergency”.
You seriously mean that if I would be now in Hungary and putting forward my above questions, I would have committed a crime and possibly arrested?
Unfortunately at this moment I’m not able to travel into Hungary, otherwise I would go now and challenge the “Rule of OV’s Law”!
Anyway independent thinkers and media, don’t let “Rule of OV’s Law” hold you back, think the official data seriously through, put up your questions and try to get real answers and available to the public!
The only condition is that we are in an emergency (newly invented health emergency was declared in June and is valid for 6 months, prolongation possible as long as Müller advises to do so). In this case messages that are able to be “disturbing” to the public are a crime – even if these messages are proven to be true. Just a coincidence that medic staff was forbidden to talk to the press the same time?
The virus is currently spreading at 6.9% a DAY in Hungary.

It seems to be a common EU standard to compare infection-rates in number of persons per 100.000, regionally and nationally.
Here you go, comparison of Hungary with Austria [OV’s Corona laboratory, as he stated ‘imselluf earlier this year]
Hungary – Austria [all data given per 100.000 inhabitants]
date: Daily New Cases [7-day running average] // active cases
Aug.07: 0.17 – 1.12 // 5.7 – 16
Aug.13: 0.32 – 1.42 // 6.7 – 17
Aug.19: 0.35 – 2.61 // 7.5 – 27
Aug.25: 0.36 – 2.98 // 9.2 – 34
Aug.31: 1.40 – 3.08 // 18 – 39
Sep.07: 4.18 – 3.37 // 45 – 39
Seems OV wanted to catch up with “his laboratory”, but now “he’s” overdoing it a little…

What pandemic? It’s just a conspiracy theory
Trump called it a hoax by the Democrats
The Democrats say Hungary is a dictatorship
What dictatorship? It’s just a conspiracy theory
Hungary is at the mercy of Orban.
What mercy? It’s just a conspiracy theory
No need to worry Don – Our devoted resident far-right evangelist, has just repeated the universal declaration (with the reassuring predictability of the “Amen” in the church) that “Everything is normal” and under control by the “right wing” (appearently that means Orbán & the likeminded masters of this world) blessed by the “instinctive” (Yes that was the word) and superior understanding of the imaginary nature of the illusions of freedom of thought, to which “left liberals” (whatever that is supposed to mean) globally attach their childish and naive expectations.

2 – Orbán

Of course!
While the Covid deniers are a funny bunch, the Covid hysteria bunch are far worse. They are far worse because they caused a needless economic depression world-wide (even for countries that did not close). The Sweden model shows that deaths/capita were not much lower in countries that did lock-downs like Belgium or Spain or US. Sweden is not even on top of the list. So why did we all do this? The resulting economic pain will kill far more people world-wide than Covid ever will. Poverty kills too! So perhaps outcome would have been better if we would have all listened to the Covid deniers. As for the next big debate? To vaccinate or not! Russia was criticized for jumping the gun. But will a short-term third stage study make a difference? How about effects on fertility? How about long-term cancer? How about effects on the immune system, which may lead to auto-immune diseases? All these cannot be answered in the next few months. It takes years. Yet we will be all urged to get vaccinated. Perhaps even compelled through pressure tactics. In the end the herd-immunity route will most likely prove to be the best, yet we were all… Read more »
Our corona expert has spoken …
So if you are with the Russian idea of trying a new vaccine – then go to Moscow asap.
“The Sweden model shows that deaths/capita were not much lower in countries that did lock-downs”
Just it caused Sweden a 5-fold death rate.
deaths/1 million people in Scandinavia:
Sweden: 577
Denmark: 108
Finland: 61
Norway: 49
In addition, the survivors face long-term damage to their lung, heart, kidney and immunity after recovery might not last longer than 6 months.
Every government should hand out good quality, several FFP2 or better masks FOR FREE to everyone and testing should also be free and easily available.
GDP decline 2nd quarter vs 1st quarter of 2020
Finland: 4.5%
Norway: 6.3%
Denmark 7.4%
Sweden: 8.6%
Sweden: most deaths, and steepest GDP decline in Scandinavia.
The advocated “herd immunity” is a capital mistake.

Zoli howls because he was kept from herd immunity. Sweden has no economic advantage and no herd immunity yet. Zoli who keeps you from going to Sweden, nobody. On this occasion you can also have a look at the Hungarian hospitals. And if you know Hungarian, tell the nurses how proud you are that they work in such buildings. We will come and shoot a little movie. How about the headline “Canadians in a vegetative state seek herd immunity in Sweden and give thanks in Hungary.”
“Zoli howls because he was kept from herd immunity.”
Don, sheep need their herd!
Zoltán the multiple migrant and serial colonist should go to Sweden, if he wants to. Last time when I looked-up the numbers in Belgium the death rate in nursing homes were about 5% based on tests, 95% on estimations.
Remember at the beginning of the pandemic, when people were desperately hoarding toilet paper? Did anyone check into Soros’ investments in toilet-paper futures? Very suspicious, if you ask me.
Back to reality – even though really, really OT:
The problems with toilet paper were at least partially caused by the fact that people would not return their cardboard boxes – which are used as raw material for toilet paper.
Re: Pócs, Orban, Trump, Putin , the use of God and the Church and the new ‘Evangels’ and the rest of the hangers-on etc etc in the 21st…
Doing their best to have everyone forget about the Englightenment. Acolytes all of a new ‘dark age ‘ with its particular ways of thinking quite apparent among us now. The world and its people made comfortably deaf, dumb and blind to jump into other weird, spooky ‘worlds’. Reason? Go away evil spirit. Go back to your Hades! The world will have none of it.
The far-right: getting kookier each day. Their oracles know what seems to work to get everybody under the tent of magical thinking. Rationality now gets edged out and moves to superstition. Wooooo. The spirits are out and about. Question of the 21st: Will the ghostbusters have a chance against apparently revived witches and demons crawling up from their tombs?
Two tailed dog party will set up a separate party list for 2022 and this means that the opposition could even lose 5%.The party apparently overtook the once might MSZP. Truth be told they “work” while MSZP is knee deep in corruption and boring (plus Attila Mesterhazy who is widely known to be fidesznik will probably lead MSZP).

Off topic. Belarusian opposition figure Maria Kolesnikova was taken captive by unknown masked men yesterday at a demonstration. (https://www.euronews.com/2020/09/07/belarusian-opposition-figure-maria-kolesnikova-missing-after-bystander-reports-abduction). An additional 600 or more demonstrators were officially arrested by Belarus riot police and most are still in jail. Internet communication with Belarus has been cut off periodically and cell phone near the sites of demonstrations shut down.
It would seem fair to assume extra-judicial murders could be the next phase of the Lukashenko government with the help of Russian operatives on loan from Putin. Meanwhile NATO does not even attempt to threaten an intervention, and the EU issues statements.
All that is known at this point is that witnesses explain how a smaller group of civilian men pulled her away from the demonstration line and rushed her into an unmarked windowless van. A familiar arrest-tactic by the KGB.
Police refuses to confirm or comment.
The previously arrested opposition-figures have been treated in these ways:
A 15 to 20 days isolation in prison sentence and subsequent release.
A few days in detention followed by nocturnal transport and drop-off at a border crossing and a court order denying re-entry.
“Meanwhile NATO does not even attempt to threaten an intervention”
Is Belarus a NATO member ? Or why do you want to drag every NATO member in war which, likely, will degenerate in a war with Russia fought on what is Russian land ?
Well in general Ovidiu unlike Trump, I don’t much like the Ivans and their leader Putin. NATO went to war over Kosovo in 1999, so NATO is not a purely defensive organization for its members. NATO can always call a conflict in Belarus a “humanitarian war” like we did back then.
I personally would have shot a few of the Russian commandos creeping across the line while I was serving with NATO in Germany in the 1970s, but we were expressly ordered not to open fire on them by our commanders unless we were fired on. In fact we allowed the commandos to cross back like it was a game. Putin does not play games, he kills people and will if necessary kill plenty in Belarus unless the opposition effectively surrenders to greater Russian interests. Below is a sticker that is on one of my cars that I think explains better my perspective on NATO and Russia.
NATO went to war with Serbia over Kosovo, not with Russia. No one wants that, except for a few decrepit Cold War Warriors, who simply cannot adjust to new realities. Its enough we have to wear masks, I don’t want to wear a radiation suit next time I go for a stroll. Do you?
OT but again showing the state of education in Hungary:
The Times has again published a new university ranking – Semmelweis university is the best Hungarian, as we say in German “ferner liefen”, place 401 – 499 http://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2021/world-ranking#!/page/4/length/25/locations/HU/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats
Eötvös and Pécs are in the group 601 – 800
The rest is …
Even more OT:
Our old universities Freiburg, Heidelberg and Tübingen are of course in the top 100 – should I be proud?
Sadly, not a single university in the region in top 400. Semmelweis is actually second place in former communist part of EU. Goes to show what adverse effects utopian Marxist experiments can have on society. Sure wish Neo-Marxist fanatics would stop pushing their agenda on the Western World. It will be an even bigger disaster. You are the end of the Western World!
Zolidiot, you’re funny again!
The “marxist” liberal … universities are leading again – not the authoritarian institutions of Hungary etc.
You really should have tried to understand the other entries in Prof Balogh’s blog, just look up CEU and now FSZE.
When Karl Marx burped, it made more sense than Orban’s Friday prayers all together. For a Viktor Orbangymnasium, a head creamed with Vaseline would be quite sufficient. The final paper is then a multitasking exercise consisting of a stiff arm with two spoken words simultaneously and synchronously.
“With such reflection exercises it is a thing of its own. For example, this person is only king because other people behave like subjects to him. Conversely, they believe they are subjects because he is king.” Karl Marx
Zoltán the multiple migrant and serial colonist always tells us that the EU and its members are throughout “marxist-globalist” – with exception of Orbánistan of course. How can it be that Freiburg, Heidelberg and Tübingen are that much better than anything the Hungarian dictator has taken over?
Just a reminder: The university cities named here all have or have had already Green Mayors and the Greens are among the leading parties there. A good example is our Green Mayor Boris Palmer in Tübingen – whose family is part Jewish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Palmer His father was a famous political figure in Tübingen many years ago. The Christian fascists didn’t like him of course or rather they hated him, especially since he was proud of his Jewish heritage. He was called “The Rebel” and I sometimes bought fruits and vegetables from him on the market in Tübingen. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmut_Palmer Sorry, only in German. Fun fact: On the sunday of the mayoral election in 2006 I drove to Hungary, but before starting I voted for Boris (everybody now calls him that). I was already thinking about returning a few weeks later to take part in the decisive voting if no candidate would get the absolute majority. After arriving in my Hungarian home I switched on the Schwab TV SWR3 which I got via satellite – and was totally surprised and really happy when I heard that Boris got more than 50% of the votes. And 8 years later he was reelected with a… Read more »
