Overnight, Magyar Nemzet perked up with the news of Donald Trump’s early victories and at 4:00 a.m. predicted that the president was doing very well in the so-called swing states and that his victory was therefore assured. By the early afternoon, on the basis of an analyst report from the Danube Institute in Budapest, the paper warned its readers that “the race is not yet decided” and votes sent by mail will likely have a Democratic majority. A couple of hours later, however, an opinion piece by Loretta Tóth announced that “Donald Trump is standing at the gates of victory.”
Magyar Nemzet didn’t refresh its homepage until around 10:00 p.m., when Loretta Tóth reappeared with an update. This time, Trump was no longer standing at the gates of victory and the Orbán administration was now hoping for legal challenges or vote recounts to ensure a much-desired Trump victory. She again asked Balázs Mártonffy, the John McCain scholar, for his perspective. He dampened her enthusiasm considerably.
The government media finds it difficult to admit that Biden’s prospects are bright. Hír TV, for example, announced this afternoon that “Biden is in the lead officially, but Trump is still the likely winner.” The site claims that in four key states where Trump was leading “the Democratic governors stopped counting the ballots,” adding that “this is what Trump was afraid of.”
Thanks to Gergely Gulyás, Viktor Orbán’s chief-of-staff, we know that the prime minister, along with the members of his cabinet, are still confident of a Trump victory, with one exception, Gergely Gulyás himself, who admitted at his weekly press conference that he sees no more than a 30%-40% chance for a Trump victory.
Hungarian society is just as split on the U.S. election as the American public is. Magyar Hírlap, another Fidesz paper, asked its readers to choose between the two candidates. The result didn’t surprise me. Over 90% of the respondents voted for Trump. On the other hand, opposition politicians and opinion makers have been rooting for the Biden-Harris team. A day before the American election, András Fekete-Győr, chairman of Momentum, wrote an opinion piece in Magyar Hang with the title “Orbán needs Trump, Hungary wants Biden!” After describing the dangerously close relationship Orbán built with China and Russia, which Trump’s United States watched without a murmur, it is a must, he said, to change direction in American politics. “When on November 3, Americans choose a president, they opt for a new direction not only for themselves but also for us, Hungarians, Europeans.” While America was pursuing an isolationist policy, “we became the playground of Russian tanks and dirty Chinese capitalists.” Biden’s election, on the other hand, is a road toward a strong counterweight to Russia and China. “Let’s root for Biden for a strong Hungary, a strong Europe, a strong West!”
The leader of the Democratic Coalition (DK), Ferenc Gyurcsány, also issued a statement saying that “it is in Europe’s interest for the President of the United States to see a strong ally in Europe, not an enemy to weaken.” While the decision is the exclusive right of U.S. citizens, he wrote, the consequences of that choice will have a major impact on the entire world, including the European Union and Hungary.
It didn’t take long for Gergely Szilvay, a right-wing commentator writing for Mandiner, to answer András Fekete-Győr with an article titled “The anti-West Biden for Fekete-Győr; The West and we need Trump.” According to Szilvay, “Trump stands by the West while the internal and external enemies of the West endorse Biden.” Fekete-Győr’s claim about Trump’s isolationism, he contends, is not based on reality. When Trump says “America first,” he means “the West is first.” Trump sets an example of self-esteem and shows toughness to the “effeminate” citizens of Europe. Once Europe grows up to the Trumpian ideal, “we can speak of a true transatlantic alliance for the glory of Europe.”
Szilvay most likely will be disappointed because today Biden made a remarkable comeback. As I write, Biden is only 17 votes shy of the 270 electoral college votes he needs, and he leads in Arizona and Nevada, which together would give him the requisite number of votes. The Hungarian independent media is convinced that Biden’s victory can be stopped only by some legal shenanigans being contemplated by Trump. The Hungarian government television said tonight that perhaps weeks will go by before we know the results. But “one thing is sure, Donald Trump caused another great surprise. In vain did the majority of the media claim that he had no chance, he proved them wrong.”

Thanks for post tonight. I am guessing that the Orban regime has been so long removed from democracy that they believe their own misinformed ignorance. That ignorance and their mafia state ideology shape the utter nonsense coming from some Fidesz stooges regarding the true “meaning” of “America first”.
It’s 10:30 here in Montreal and I’ve just watched 15 minutes of CNN, realizing, en passant, that this election show has been going on for two days. It’s a 2-day horse race. Imagine the boon to the television companies who have two days of ‘content’ for nothing!
The problems of early vote counting would disappear if the count was done in secrecy but you can be damn sure that the major television media would object vociferously to killing their golden goose.
While I’m at my speculation, can anyone have an educated guess at the legal costs of the Presidential Office? Do all of Trump’s frivolous legal moves get paid by the government?
“Do all of Trump’s frivolous legal moves get paid by the government?”
He is collecting money from his supporters, so it seems it is not the taxpayer who has to pay for it. Obviously USA are not Orbánistan in this case.
It’s hard to chose which aspect of the Trump’s administration has been most outrageous. Using the White House for partisan purposes? It was one of the unprecedented scandals of US history, and but it gets lost in the stream of scandals. But this was special: Trump wanted the Department of Justice to defend him when he defamed someone who accused him of sexual assault. It was thrown out recently, but it’s an example of the US taxpayers paying for Trump’s frivolous legal moves: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-defamation-lawsuit/u-s-cannot-shield-trump-from-rape-accusers-defamation-lawsuit-judge-rules-idUSKBN27C1ZS
One thing is relating to the nature and history of reations with the Americans.
An enterily different matter is navigating the waters of European politics.
I have the strange feeling that the Trump people committed some cheating with the mail-in ballots in Arizona.
Biden’s lead has been shrinking when the mail-in ballots are counted from a Democratic-leaning Maricopa county. This goes against every other state, where the mail-in ballots were cast overwhelmingly by pro-Biden people.
In the meantime, US just reached the 240,000 dead and 9.8 million CoViD-sick numbers.
@tappanch, 2:33 am
Yes COVID-19 in the US is bad but compare it with Hungary:
4,300 infections a day here would be 151,000/day in the US.
95 dead in a day would be 3,350 dead in a day in the US.
The USA/Trump is doing waaay better than Hungary/Orban – and here the borders are closed. Go figger.
Trump called the Arizona governor yesterday demanding the governor to do something.
The Arizona authorities just added 137K NEW ballots to the “ballots cast” pool and tabulated them right away, shrinking Biden’s lead.
The Trump lead in PA has narrowed from 700K to 164K in the last few hours.
Trump lead in GA now with only 18.586 Votes.
“…strange feeling…”
What did you expect about Donaldus, the disgusting Usurper!
Probably you are unaware tappanch of a TV advertising campaign the Lincoln Project is running right now in Arizona see https://youtu.be/-bLtdZH8R1M We did an emergency fund raising campaign to fund these commercials across the State. I contributed myself as have other conservatives opposed to Trump.
Also those of us supporting The Lincoln Project are also preparing to litigate against Trump if necessary or support the Biden campaign in defending votes where necessary. We will not have this election stolen from the people, no matter the litigation costs.
We will no doubt have our falling out with the Biden administration in the future. But we are done with the tyrant Trump.
This article discusses the current situation in Arizona https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/driven-by-unfounded-sharpiegate-rumor-pro-trump-protesters-mass-outside-arizona-poll-counting-center/ar-BB1aIxUC .
Re: the disgusting Usurper ‘Donaldus’
Such a personage! His minions bow and heap praise on their deity before him. Hail Imperator! Hail Caesar! Hail Augustus! And the encomiums overwhelm.
And now a modern Nero destroying an ‘American Rome’ with his rages and malfeasance that fall on process, institutions and individuals who have the gall to disagree with his edicts. He is found here here a decayed Nero who usually followed through with quill to eliminate his perceived enemies:
‘Cum de supplico cuisdam capite damnati ut ex more subscrieret admoneretur: ‘Quam vellum’, inquit, ‘nescire litteras’. Suetonius
When he was asked to sign the usual warrant for a man’s execution he said, ‘ How I wish I had never learned to write!’
Sorry Europe for putting you through angst. But the Repuglican Emperor is not a calm and meditative Aurelius. At this difficult reality orienting time for him you will only see delirium tremens in action. We’ll eventually get through this nerve-racking experience so perhaps we can get a new workable relationship once again.
Agree with you 100%.
Thank you for your ongoing service and contributions to Lincoln Project. You are a principled conservative voice.
Same thoughts exactly.
Re: the Lincoln Project
The craft and creativity in that way of ‘advertising’ to the electorate is a game changer in the annals of political advertising. 👍👍👍
Istvan Chi…yep we know what’s at stake.
Disappointment for the ‘Tater Dictator. I am so sorry…
Now we get to see how the losers (on both sides of the water) behave after the People Have Spoken.
People Have Spoken? Were there given away sacks of potatoes on your side of the pond as well?……
I didn’t hear anything about potatoes over there. Perhaps it would have helped Trump if he used the illegitimate manipulations Orbán usually practices.
I doubt it. Even he is too moral and upright to engage in such sinister practices. ”Only in Hungary, you say? Only in Hungary.
Only in Hungary? …
No comment
Only Orbán? …..No comment
I never heard any party besides FIDESZ giving away potatoes to buy votes. By this: Yes, Orbán only!
Orbán does everything possible to stay worst example at least in the EU. But I won’t say he’ll never reach a higher level. Up to now I expected from Orbán the worst only – and he did even worse than I was able to imagine. Perhaps I just haven’t such a sick mind that is unable to imagine anybody is that disgusting….
Well, potatoes in some countries, something else in the others…
@CCsomething, 2:25 am
Sure. You know how that is. Trump digs Coal,
Orban digs ‘taters. In fact its is now official since Viktor again became the “digtater” of Hungary.
Nice pun Bimbi – and very apt.
I’m so very happy all PM in the world are so honest, but OV….again, no comment
First of all, it could be that the perception, even by Trump and Orbán, is that they are friends, but they are not!! Global Communists rot the apple from the outside and Orbánistán communists eat it from the inside!
And high trees catch a lot of wind, and who climbs high can fall deep, and who digs a hole for someone else is a worker.
Splendid
Sure and Trump is the president of the Comintern….
Also very good:->
And the apple is an orange.
very good:->
The only true statement of Orbàn’s propaganda machine is that “Trump caused another great surprise ..” defying the polls eg. 7-9% lead in the popular vote. (It’s worth a study whether the Bradly effect has now turned to be observed amongst the Trump supporters, ie. they are ashamed or afraid to admit their preferences).
Biden will probably win, with 264 votes as I write, leading in Nevada and 0.4% behind in Georgia, but the problem of trumpists will remain, rotting America and pulling it apart.
See this on trump voters:
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/11/04/democrats-trump-voters-434100
One news agency pronounced, “Biden will be screwed even if he wins” – and that is, alas, correct because the Dems desperately needed control of the Senate and it appears that they will not achieve it. It will be another seriously constipated Congress as it was under President Obama with the result that little of society-changing significance legislation was passed. The Affordable Care Act was greatly watered-down and now Amy Coney in the SCOTUS can shovel the last earth on its grave.
“Sad”, as Trumpy has often said.
It’s true, it was a big surprise.
And the point is not that the polls were off. They were off but it’s a professional issue for the pollsters, but ultimately it’s a meta issue.
The underlying issue is that Trump was – despite the scandals upon scandals (at least which we might’ve thought of as scandals), incompetence, erratic behaviors, bad policies etc. – more popular than what the numbers showed, what we thought.
Average joes in Montana and Missouri and Texas think differently from us.
That’s a big issue and it must be answered because Trump also increased his support among Latinos, hitherto thought of as a pillar of the Democratic coalition.
Of course it’s pretty racist to assume that all Latinos are alike when they come from so many different countries and backgrounds.
But it’s a mistake to just concentrate on white rural folks (in fact Biden did actually took away such voters from Trump), other groups got to like Trump during his 4 years (at least they liked him more than 4 years ago and that’s a pretty interesting achievement).
Or, the Russians hacked the voting machines AGAIN.
No need for Russian hacking.
Most sane people I know voted Trump.
Many Democrats turn an blind eye to the anarchy in their leadership and party.
Marty
Latinos/Cubans, traditionally voted predominantly Republicans and seem to have missed/ignored the fact that the Rep party degenerated in a Trump one.
It’s time to admit – sadly though – that demagoguery works. No one has been better at it than all-world used-car-salesman, Donald J Trump
When Trump says “America first,” he means “the West is first.” The Orbanists read their own Probaganda and believe it is news. Those who cannot afford comic read Hungarian Probaganda, which is mercilessly funny.
Someone forgot that Trump also conducted a trade war against the EU – part of the Western World (except “half-Asian” Orbánistan of course).
Very bad if somebody forget more than have learned. But if there is a bag of taters …
OT: this is an op-ed but it’s really a short report about Montana.
Montana like many of the states in the North/West used to be a two-party state not so long ago. Max Baucus’ name might ring a bell or Tom Daschle’s who was from South Dakota.
In Montana, yesterday the Democratic governor (a kind of last of the Mohicans) was replaced by a hardliner Republican.
Now these states (e.g.. Idaho, the Dakotas, Wyoming) are firmly Republican, Democrats have been wiped out.
The article shows what’s going on in these states.
Once all the levers of power are acquired by the GOP (and the hard line is taking over the party from within), it’s impossible for any opposition to return.
That’s the GOP the Democrats are up against.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/04/opinion/montana-greg-gianforte-governor.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage
umm… Montana has a Democratic senator. He was just re-elected two years ago.
Marty: “Once all the levers of power are acquired by the GOP (and the hard line is taking over the party from within), it’s impossible for any opposition to return.”
Total rubbish. You either know nothing about American politics or are deliberately trying to mislead people. Possibly both.
Or you possibly haven’t read the article or didn’t check “Political party strength in [insert name of state]” on Wikipedia.
or you didn’t read Bob Brown is a former Montana Secretary of State and State Senate President:
‘Montana appears well down the road to becoming a one–party Republican, deeply conservative state, like the states that surround us.’ says
And so on.
Do you homework shoopy and stop deluding yourself.

For those who speak Hungarian.
Georg Spöttle is a UFO-conspiracy propagator “security expert” who is all over the state/fidesznik media (who pontificates about the imminent collapse of the West), he was also a council member candidate in Szentes (didn’t win).
Apparently Spöttle was a policeman for 30 years in Germany before he become a minor celebrity in Hungary among fideszniks.
This is from his FB page (note that Spöttle has 52k likers/followers and his Hungarian post about the election was liked by 2.6k likes which is comparable to the most popular posts of the top opposition politicians).
Fideszniks loved Trump.
https://csehszlovakkem.tumblr.com/post/633886511844179968/simán-hozzák-george-spöttle-biztonságpolitikai
Our dear host Eva has mentioned crazy Spöttle already in her article on Jan 29 2020.
Fun fact:
In German Spott means ridicule, so Spöttle is little ridicule …
PS:
Tw,o years ago the Spiegel already reported on the ufologist (sorry, only in German):
https://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/chemnitz-deutschlands-daemmerung-in-ungarns-regierungsmedien-a-1226488.html
he really is crazier than crazy and his claims of having worked for the German police and security services …
“The site claims that in four key states where Trump was leading “the Democratic governors stopped counting the ballots,” adding that “this is what Trump was afraid of.”
Even by the standards of Fidesz media this statement is strikingly dumb. If a state ‘stoped counting’ in a context where ‘Trump was leading’ then umm Trump wins. These people are clueless.
Digtater Orbán likes dump and clueless People.
Of course they cannot deal with their disappointments.
The referenced ”expert” of Danube Institute is completely unknown to me just as the others on the Institute website are. (https://danubeinstitute.hu/hu/tartalom/munkatarsak) But as I peruse their website, for the first time, because it is a new one to me, I find him there, as fluffy as life itself, with all the desirable Fidesz-like credentials, just like all those other unknowns, a veritable panopticum of miscreants, (I just lack the courage to call them mafia, sorry), I never heard before. Only one thing is sure, they are all the products of the revisionist ”institutes” and universities conceived and financed by the government and are eminently primed to mislead, distort and falsify any information before regurgitating them.
It is typical conduct for Magyar Nemzet to request and derive any information from these bozos.
From the menu of the website of Danube institute: “Kutatás: Nemzeti szuverenitás, kereszténység és demokrácia.”
About the first: “A kutatócsoport az aktuális jogi és politikai problémákat elméleti szinten vizsgálja. A továbbiakban a jogállam és a joguralom problematikáját fogjuk áttekinteni. Ehhez kapcsolódva a szuverenitás kérdését, aminek speciális hangsúlyt ad az EU-hoz való viszony. Konkrétan az, hogy az Európai Unió milyen módon befolyásolja a tagállamok nemzeti szuverenitását.”
Typical Orbán stupidity, it is not the sovereignty of the member states of the EU, but of their citizens. And nothing is limited at all by sharing sovereignty between several European people.
And about the latter: “Fő kutatási témánk a kereszténység, amely napjainkban is alapvető szerepet játszik az európai politika formálásában.
Another piece out of Orbán’s playbook. Why can I understand this “institute” is a source for the most important regime daily?
Istvàn
It’s no incident that these GONGO bonzoes put the emphasis on the independence from the rule of law, ie. trying to find ways to make the lawless rule of the Orbàn mafia look something more palatable. They will surely test some of their concoctions on the EU pols, who finally decided on linking the EU money to the rule of law.
Of course not! Orbán needs regime depending NGOs and regime depending institutes promoting his sick ideology.
According to Index the rule of law for the seven year EU budget passed EU Parliament and country leaders.
(Cannot insert link, on the phone.)
https://index.hu/kulfold/2020/11/05/eldolt_sokat_bukhat_magyarorszag_ha_szembemegy_az_unios_ertekekkel/
Contrary to the headlines, the agreement between the European Parliament and the Council means Orban & Kaczynski won, the huge amount of money is theirs.
They can flout the “basic values” of Europe. Only the Council, which consists of the prime ministers can punish them with 2/3 vote.
https://24.hu/kozelet/2020/11/05/jogallami-mechanizmus-reszletek/
The simple majority doesn’t suit the topic, it is just allowed for initiating procedural questions, but never for decisions. The ordinary vote for EU decisions is the qualified or double majority, it needs 15 states representing 65% of the population and this is the case here. The other decisions have to be taken either by reinforced qualified majority or even unanimously. And which 13 states would vote with Orbán to block the qualified majority? And it can’t even be just the small ones! Don’t forget that the vast majority of governments involve ALDE, PES, Greens and even a lot of EPP is not charmed by the Orbán regime (and even less with PiS as it is not affiliated). The commission will declare the endangerment of the rule of law (just adopted the report about the rule of law for 2020, by this there is no way to deny) and the council has to vote within a month. Only exception: If Orbán wants to prove that the accusation is wrong (and he will) there might be a prolongation of not more than 2 months once. In any case: Way better than the suggestion the Germans had lately.
I agree it is not perfect, but at least there is a first step.
And the Viktor is not amused.

I am extremely pleased to see that the Associated Press has declared Wisconsin for Joe Biden. Many of the supporters of the Lincoln Project, Republicans who broke from Trump and supported Biden, worked very hard in Wisconsin to break conservatives away from Trump. I was one of those who helped with that campaign. I would say the success in that project was limited, but as we have added up 50 or a 100 votes in smaller towns in the many rural counties we secured for Joe Biden they added up to several thousand votes. Which given the narrow margin of victory seem critical. Of course there were other interest groups that made small inroads into the Trump vote in smaller town Wisconsin, for example the environmental groups, some Native American tribes, or more liberal Christian churches. I admit the night of the election I was very distraught at the level of support Trump was able to amass. But as we dig down in the data we are seeing that basically Trump’s increased votes in many places were based on family units that pressured other members of the family who were non-voters in 2016, or too young to vote to turn… Read more »
Congratulations and thank you for your efforts
„Election observer says no evidence for Trump’s fraud claims
BERLIN (AP) — The head of an international delegation monitoring the U.S. election says his team has no evidence to support President Donald Trump’s claims about alleged fraud involving mail-in absentee ballots.
Michael Georg Link, a German lawmaker who heads an observer mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, told German public broadcaster rbb Thursday that “on the election day itself, we couldn’t see any violations” at the U.S. polling places they visited.
Link said he was “very surprised” by Trump’s claims about postal ballot fraud because the United States has a long history of this method of voting going back to the 19th century.”
https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-donald-trump-elections-voting-2020-voting-b30f3424736014a6b7405df71e32e36f
For 200 years the US electoral system has worked – now an idiot comes and shouts fraud.
Might the reason be for Trump shouting fraud that he himself was unable to create an election system that guarantees him being elected as Orbán did here? Perhaps nobody told the US president that he is not the one who determines who will be elected?
I don’t know how long Trump pondered this. After he understood that potato sacks don’t bring the election results he needs to be re-elected, he thought: “if I tell the People that postal voting is or leads to fraud”, the Republicans would believe it. Then I can go to court after election day and stop all the votes that are coming in. The Republicans fell for it but stopping the incomming votes hasn’t worked yet.
When you ask; Trump has the best election system, nobody has a better election system than Trump, all his friends say Trump has the best election system. Even those he doesn’t know say Trump has the best election system. If I don’t vote for you, you’re fired.
“you’re fired”
Here in Hungary some mayors punish those who don’t vote for the regime with “you’re fired”, but how will Trump fire the entire electorate?
BTW I remember the first attack against mail-in-votes during the primaries. Trump just had voted by mail for a couple of days before….
Not only Trump the whole family voted by mail, and „Trump, While Attacking Mail Voting, Casts Mail Ballot Again.“
https://www.npr.org/2020/08/19/903886567/trump-while-attacking-mail-voting-casts-mail-ballot-again?t=1604591369540
OT „but how will Trump fire the entire electorate?“ That’s what we will ask him when he presents his Trump care that he has been finished “in two weeks” since one year and when he is re-elected.
This article provides a summary of the Trump litigation strategy relating to the election results. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/11/04/trump-files-lawsuit-stop-michigan-vote-count-temporarily/6164647002/ Other cases are also being filed. It is possible some or none could end up in the US Supreme Court. The Court would have to grant a writ of certiorari to hear any case in a rapid manner. Even though there is a Republican conservative majority on the Court they may still deny certiorari because the judicial branch is very cautious about its role in elections, especially conservative justices who see themselves as originalists.
Originalism is a term coined in the 1980s to describe a judicial philosophy in the US courts focusing on the text of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers’ intentions in resolving legal disputes. The Constitution places the power to resolve disputes over the election of the President by electoral college. See this conservative article relating to that https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/09/what-happens-if-neither-trump-nor-biden-wins-the-electoral-college/ . It does not appear there will be an actual tie in the electoral college vote at this time.
By crook or by hook … Trump/ists don’t care about anything but preserving their power.
The courts will certainly uphold the unequivocal provisions of the law and I think most of trump’s construed claims fall in this category.
Re: if Trump does manage to win election by Supreme Court or ‘continent election’ if there is an electoral tie and after initial voter suppression by the Republican Party before election
America will then unfortunately travel on to a dark and darker stage and roughly half of the country would , because of their ‘figurehead’, bask in the sunshine of his love. Checks and balances then will give ALL of the people something only half want.
And those who ‘don’t want’ will be sure to pay for it as they will then see the country more and more go down the chute of Trumpian conservative autocracy. And they will have to kiss and give democracy the long goodbye.
Checks and balances? Seem to not have checked the American tinpot. He keeps on going like the Duracell rabbit. If he wins the election there is something terribly wrong with the ‘American Dream’. And to go to Trump for it is seeing his adherents as ‘jesters to the clown’. And with Trumpian conservatism it appears only fools rush in.
Haha
USAH* = United States of Almost Half *ssh*l*s
fine with me if people vote for the “man”, better said the toddler, voting is everybody’s right
BUT those grown-ups who now after the toddler’s undemocratic and therefore unacceptable utterings since the voting still fully support him [aka.babysit with him] are utter and utter *ssh*l*s! period!
a democracy? seems becoming a parody!
Steve Bannon the mentally still underage calls for beheading Dr. Fauci and FBI Director Wray. Yesterday a minor Jobbik supporter of 35 years told me Covid-19 wouldn’t exist, it was an invention. He could not tell me who invented it and he was not surprised. I did not wonder either.
For many the USA have always been a parody of democracy – that constitution which is more than 200 years old and in many areas hasn’t been updated to the modern world is kind of funny.
Why is this rule in the constitution?
So that even those living far away can ride their horse downtown …
To have the most important rules in “amendments” – no, we first didn’t think about this, is also funny.
And those ideas re “unrepresentative” representation which lets the sh*thole little states in the obesity belt rule over the population centers (which also are the innovation centers …) is strange for a modern citizen.
PS:
The parallels are obvious:
Some people in the underdeveloped part of the USA are whining about California eg going down the drain – just like Huns and PISsers (and zoli …) are whining about France, Benelux, Germany etc being overrun by “migrants”.
And my German friends always start laughing hysterically when I tell them that Huns and PISsers consider themselves the better “Central Europeans”. 🙂 🙂

Allegheny county (Pittsburgh) would like to resume counting at 5 PM Friday.
But the Supreme Court will intervene and will forbid further counting tomorrow, in my opinion.

The affiliation of the 2,692,990 mail-in voters in Pennsylvania:
Democratic: 64.81%
Republican: 23.61%
Independent & other: 11.58%
Correction:
The affiliation of the 2,612,241 mail-in voters in Pennsylvania, who actually returned their ballots.
A modest note.
Many mail in democrats may have voted Trump.
And only very few republicans Biden.
The Trump mantra-tweet …9:12AM..
‘Stop the Count’…..
This from the President of the United States.
He must feel the noose tightening.
Possible Republican game plan:
The Supreme Court intervenes tomorrow, Friday;
the finished states have not pushed Biden over 270;
the Republicans will appoint the next president in January.
They will not appoint Trump, of course – he is no longer useful for them.
As a previous poster Jan said about being in a ‘high trees catching wind’ . Some could be certainly happy up there. Unfortunately though when you look at an ass hanging that high the wafting smell just could too much to bear. 😎
OT but – Earlier today, Szijjártó announced on his Facebook-page, that he is making a deal on the Russian vaccine for HU.
Vaccine from Russia … hmm.
I have a feeling the government is a little worried about a negative Corona-effect on their popularity, in 2022

He should use this on himself, his family and friends …
I’m not sure that it works against kleptomania.
But it could (depending on the effect) work indirectly against compulsive lying.
Pennsylvania.
Trump’s lead: 108,594
Mail-in ballots not counted: 369,364
Counting in Philly & suburbia:
Philadelphia: 91,386
Chester: 2,389
Montgomery: 2,792
Delaware: 11,849
Total: 108,416
Suppose 70% goes to Biden, 30% goes to Trump.
40%*108416 = 43366.net gain to Biden.
BUT counties that seem to have stopped counting:
Allegheny: 35806 (stopped counting because of “legal challenges”)
Bucks: 46568
Cumberland: 31970
Biden cannot overtake Trump if the ballots in Allegheny, Bucks and Cumberland counties are not counted.
tappanch the number change way too fast the Trump lead in Pennsylvania according to https://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/ is down now to 107,176, but to be honest by the time you read this it may have changed already. The outstanding mail in ballots as of a few minutes ago were 340,375 that may have changed already too. The updated data can be seen at https://www.votespa.com/About-Elections/Pages/Counting-Dashboard.aspx. Since the weather is so nice in Chicago
I am going to a socially distanced out door deck party for Lincoln Project supporters on the north shore of Chicago in the town of Lake Forest, where the big money is.
No victory party yet, but we all need a break from the stress. I have no doubt the wine will be excellent, hope you all do well.
I am looking at the same page, Istvan (Chicago) ….
Allegheny & Cumberland counties are not counting
340K – 35K arriving after November 3 – 36 Allegheny – 32K Cumberland = 237
40%* 237K = 95K net gain to Biden
Trump’s lead is also exactly 95K right now !!
Tie, if Allegheny & Cumberland are not allowed to finish the counting.
Have a good party!
Masha Gessen introduced this poem , ‘Stalin’s Epigram’ by Mandelstam at this time in a New Yorker piece as she eyes how the US is experiencing life with the autocrat. It sums up what’s going as a result of being in the Trumpian gulag.
Clarence Brown’s and W. S. Merwin’s Translation:
New York: Atheneum, 1974.
“Our lives no longer feel ground under them
At ten paces you can’t hear our words.
But whenever there’s a snatch of talk
It turns to the Kremlin mountaineer,
The ten thick worms his fingers,
His words like measures of weight,
The huge laughing cockroaches on top of his lip,
The glitter of his boot-rims.
Ringed with a scum of chicken-necked bosses
He toys with the tributes of half men.
One whistles, another meouws, a third snivels.
He pokes out his finger and he alone goes boom.
He forges decrees in a line like horseshoes,
One for the groin, one for the forehead, temple, eye .
He rolls the executions of his tongue like berries.
He wishes he could hug them like big friend back home”
Masha Gessen is Transgender/Non-binary and wants to be addressed as “They” – a very interesting person who said:
Trump is worse than Putin.

Her (Their) brother Keith is also a well-known journalist/editor. He is one of the founding editors of N+1 Magazine which is a great general interest periodical (left-leaning, critical). I recommend it very much. Keith also writes fiction but those aren’t that good.

Let’s hope Biden will not use the “let’s reach across the isle”, “let’s be bipartizan” etc. type of naive stupidity which didn’t work under Obama either.
But there will be a huge pressure to conclude grand bargains and let Trump and his pals off the hook.
Joe Lockhart (Bill Clinton’s press secretary) already suggested that Biden should relieve Trump from all legal risks as part of a grand bargain.
Forgiving for the last 4 years, however, would just mean than a new but smarter Trump (ie. his daughter or somebody else) would return just as Orban returned after his 2002 loss. Since there are two parties only sooner or later the pendulum will swing back, that’s the thing with the first past the post system which always yield two parties, it’s a closed, duopolistic system.
Gessen understands the autocratic mindset much more than most liberals.
While the warnings are quite to the point Gessen didn’t write a word re how are the suggested changes going to be achieved with a Rep controlled senate which will obstruct at any turn unless there’s another 2018 like blue wave mid terms (which is unlikely).
Lincoln on the ‘common people’…
To law partner William Herndon:
”Billy, don’t shoot too high. – aim lower and the common people will understand you. They are the ones you want to reach – at least they are the ones you ought to reach. The educated and refined people will understand you anyway. If you aim to high your ideas will go over the heads of the masses and only hit those who need no hitting”.
Now he’d be amazed if he could see from the grave how one ‘achieved’ in his Presidency and soon may be dispatched. Trump bested Lincoln alright. He went even ‘lower than low’ to get his Chair in the Big House.

This article is a beauty.

Complaining about terrorists who kill because of cartoons, not respecting freedom of speech.
And the cure: forbid freedom of speech.
The best way to say it:
Das muss man sich auf der Zunge zergehen lassen.

Trump’s number crunchers predicted that Trump will win Pennsylvania by 40K when the mail-in votes are added.

Georgia: 2,445,321 – 2,447,223 = – 1902
Allegheny county, PA (36K): ballots are frozen.
Do the Democrats have more bullet-ballots left to flip PA and/or GA tonight?
10:45 PM EST
Pennsylvania: Biden – Trump = -26319

Pennsylvania: 3267969-3286193 = -18229

I like it!
YESSSSSSSSSS!
Now let’s sing “alternative lyrics” with some Georgians:
It’s the End of toddler as the POTUS,
And I feel FINE, FINE, FINE!
Right? RIGHT!
I don’t think that you realize how Poland under Law and Order (PiS) rule is Tramp dependent country. Whole county foreign policy is built on personal relations with Trump. Without Trump Poland has no allies in the world. Not at all because we broke all bonds with EU, France, Germany, Ukraine and all other countries. Now will be final deterioration relations with USA. So what’s now? Open alliance with Putin?
Just get rid of the PISsers and everybody in the EU will accept you with open arms – of course everybody except O1G.
Taking responsibility for the sanity of business will do.
